Large capacity and high voltage transmission lines have been developed rapidly. There are multi circuit lines on the same tower and AC 750, 1000 kV and DC ± 800 kV transmission lines with higher voltage level 。 All these make the tower tend to be large-scale, and the design load of the tower is also increasing. The strength and specification of the commonly used hot-rolled angle steel are difficult to meet the requirements of the tower with large load.
Composite section angle steel can be used for large load tower, but the wind load shape coefficient of composite section angle steel is large, the number and specification of members are large, the joint structure is complex, the amount of connection plate and structural plate is large, and the installation is complex, which greatly increases the construction investment. Steel tube tower has some disadvantages, such as complex structure, difficult to control weld quality, low processing efficiency, high pipe price and processing cost, and large investment in processing equipment of tower plant.
